Technologists ask Tinubu to issue executive order on HND/BSC dichotomy

The Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to issue an executive order to abolish the HND-BSc dichotomy in order to advance technological development in the country.

The National President of NATE, Dominic Udoatan, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after their N500m fundraising and groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the NATE House; its permanent secretariat.

Udoatan said they remained steadfast in their mission and would continue to advocate the abolition of the HND-BSc dichotomy, striving for a future where technologists were recognised and compensated for their invaluable expertise.

He said, “We are working on it; we have written to the president to issue an executive order to abolish the HND-BSc dichotomy; we have written to the Senate because the bill was passed in the last assembly; and we have asked them to reactivate it for the president’s assent.

“We are also in the industrial court, and we have written to the head of service as well. So, it is on course, and we are hopeful.”

While noting that they would have a breakthrough, he said they had explored many avenues to achieve it, adding that the dream of a permanent home had never wavered.

He further said, “The NATE House isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s about having a physical space to call our own, a place where NATE’s legacy resides. It’s a place for our members to connect, collaborate and strategise. It’s a place where future generations of technologists can find inspiration and guidance. More importantly, it’s a symbol of our progress and permanence. As we conquer new territories, NATE House will be our home base, a place to rest, recharge and plan.”
