Emotions ran high on Monday when the corpse of 22-year-old Oluwabamise Ayanwole, who was allegedly abducted while travelling in a BRT, was found.

The body of the deceased was allegedly dumped by her abductors on Carter Bridge before driving away in a BRT bus.

The body of the woman was identified by one of her brothers in the company of three others.

On sighting the body, her brother, who was at the morgue, along with some policemen to identify the body wept openly.

It was learnt that the driver of the BRT bus has been arrested

As of Monday morning, members of her family were still hopeful that she would be found alive.

The Lagos State Police Command, on Sunday, declared Bamise missing after her parents reported a case of a missing person.

The deceased was said to have gone missing in transit while onboard a BRT bus on February 26, 2022.

She was said to have boarded the bus from Chevron bus stop, Lekki heading towards Oshodi, before she got missing.

Two persons were earlier arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.

It was learnt that among those arrested was the man who stood as guarantor for the driver.

But a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the corpse was found on the Carter Bridge by Ogogoro Community in Lagos Island.

According to him, the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Mainland Hospital, Yaba.

He said the bereaved family has been contacted and the members have identified the corpse as that of Oluwabamise Ayanwole, earlier declared missing.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, is saddened by this incident and, therefore, expresses, on behalf of the management, officers and men of the command, his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.

“Notwithstanding the death of Oluwabamise, the detectives handling the case would not rest on their oars until her killers are found.

“We, therefore, assure the concerned public and the bereaved family that we are closing in on the culprits and we are sure that soon the suspects would be arrested and made to face justice for this murderous act,’’ he said.
