Teacher attacks, bites woman in Abuja church

A teacher, Hezekiah Ayola, was docked on Wednesday in a Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly assaulting a woman.

The prosecution counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Pastor Chidera Ihedioha, reported the matter at the Area Command Headquarters, Kubwa, on Oct. 12.

He alleged that the defendant entered the complainant’s church and beat up one Martha Emole and inflicted her bites all over her body.

He said Emole sustained injuries on her legs as a result of the beating, adding that she was still receiving treatment in a hospital.

The prosecution counsel said the offence contravened Section 265 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Yahaya Sheshi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

He said the surety must provide two recent passport photographs, driver’s licence or national identity card and a printout of Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The judge said he granted the defendant bail for his diligence in responding to the police since the inception of the matter in October.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 8 for hearing. (NAN)
