The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has delivered over 39 power transformers and spare parts as well as substation projects across its 10 regions to boost the power transmission network.
According to a statement by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, at the weekend, the deliveries were steps towards implementing the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme (NEGMERP) by the company.
An analysis of the delivery report indicates that in Kano region, TCN delivered a 300MVA and 100MVA transformers at the Kumbotso 330/132/33 kilovolts (kV) substation with 20 truckloads of transformer accessories; it installed a 100MVA transformer in Dakata substation with six truckloads of accessories, while Dan Agundi substation got 100MVA transformer with six truckloads of accessories and spare parts.
The projects are being supported by the World Bank, the national power transmission firm stated.
In its Kaduna region, TCN said it has delivered transformers, spare parts and substations towards expanding the power grid. They include 10 units of transformers and five new substation projects in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto among others.
In Lagos region, TCN recently delivered a 300MVA transformer to the 330/132/33kV Lekki substation joining two 60MVA and 75MVA transformers installed in February with three truckloads of accessories.
It noted that, “Meanwhile, under Lagos region, several substations and line projects have been completed in the last one year.” Some of these include 60MVA transformers installed at Egbin and Itire substations. TCN also procured two transformers for the new Eko Atlantic substation, along with 16 others to be installed at substations in Alagbon, Akoka, Amuwo, Ijora.
In the Port Harcourt region, the statement said TCN recently delivered some circuit breakers, isolators, batteries, battery chargers, relays, and lightning arresters to provide ready maintenance equipment for TCN engineers to respond rapidly to faults on the national power grid.
The company is also delivering eight transformers across some South South states in its region, including two 60MVA transformers each at Ugep and Oron substations in Akwa Ibom.
