The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Thursday laid the foundation for a N3.6 billion ( $8 million) power transmission substation in Oro, Irepodun LGA of Kwara State.

Speaking while performing the ground-breaking ceremony of the project, the Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the power substation is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The minister, who described the project as a game changer, said it was approved by the Federal Executive Council on December 21, 2022.

“The project will improve power supply to Oro and its environs and boost economic activities, especially for artisans and small and large medium scale businesses to enhance the social development of the people,” she said.

He implored the people of Oro to own and jealously protect the project, adding that it will revolutionise the power situation in the community.

Lai, who said the project will transform the local economy of the area through the use of local manpower and other building materials, said other projects are nearing completion while others are on their way.

Also speaking, the Managing Director/CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Dr Sule Abdulaziz, said the project will make reliable and quality bulk electricity available for DisCos to distribute to electricity consumers.
