A task force comprising of vigilantes, hunters and police have killed three kidnappers during an operation along Lokoja-Okene highway in Kogi State.

The taskforce also arrested two informants who have been aiding the activities of kidnappers along the route, it was gathered.

The feat came few days after a taskforce foiled kidnap attempt, killing four suspected kidnappers while on patrol along the same highway.

Daily Trust on Sunday learnt that the taskforce put in place by the state government from Okehi and Adavi local government areas laid siege on the suspects while planning an operation along the highway.

The hunters, who were on patrol at about 4.30am, apprehended the informants – one Mr Godwin Peter, a native of Ikeje in Olamaboro Local Government Area and Sanni Habib, a native of Idoji in Okene Local Government Area of the state.

They were both said to have confessed aiding the activities of the criminals through intelligence on movement of motorists and travellers.

The Senior Special Adviser (SSA) Security in charge of Okehi Local Government Area, Malam Abdulraheem Ohiare, told journalists that he and his Adavi counterpart, Mr. Joseph Omuya Salami, led the hunters to the hideouts of the kidnappers following intelligence report.

He said the suspected kidnappers opened fire on sighting the team, resulting in a shootout.

According to him, three kidnappers fell to the superior fire power of the security operatives during the face-off, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
