Taraba government will not provide land for Ruga project – Governor Ishaku

Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku, has said the state government will not provide land for Ruga Settlement as proposed by the federal government.

The governor made the position of the state government known through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan Abu, over a telephone interview with our correspondent.

He revealed that the state government is against the move by the federal government, adding that no land will be allocated for such project in the state.

According to him, a bill passed by Taraba State House of Assembly prohibiting open grazing and for establishment of Ranching has been passed into law by the state assembly.

“I want to remind you that, there is a law on the establishment of ranches, the same law also restrict movement of cattle in the state,” Dan Abu said.

According to him, the law has covered the interest of all stakeholders and it was a product of several stakeholders’ meetings.

He said what the government of Taraba wants from the federal government is to support it in implementing the law which had started in the state.
