Kente in a letter to the Clerk of the House stated that his resignation was personal and thanked members of the 7th assembly for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity.

“I write to tender my resignation as Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Jalingo from today, 24 day of November, 2014. My resignation is personal. I want to seek this opportunity to thank members of the 7th assembly for giving me the opportunity to serve as Hon. Speaker for the past one year.

He promised to remain loyal and contribute his best to the well-being of the House.

Kente became Speaker of the House on November 11, 2013 following the death of Speaker Haruna Tsokwa.

Kente has been a loyal supporter of the former acting governor Garba Umar who was recently sacked from office by the judgement of a Supreme Court.
