Tanker explosion: Jos North LG, drivers disagree over park removal

The Jos North LGA of Plateau State and drivers at a motor park at the popular Bauchi Junction have disagreed over the decision to remove the park from the area.

On April 27, a tanker exploded at the junction in which at least 13 people were killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

The Chairman of Jos North LGA, Shehu Bala, said the authority decided to remove the park and kiosks in order to decongest the area, noting that it was realised that the damage caused by the tanker explosion was as a result of the congestion in the area.

However, the move to decongest the area resulted in a heated argument between the LG and the drivers.

Aminu Yusuf, a driver, said, “We are not happy with this decision because the chairman hasn’t spoken about the major problem that causes accidents in the area. The major problem is for the government to construct a flyover and dualise the road from Jos to Bauchi.

Nura Adamu, another driver, said, “I am a member of this motor park. I am not happy with what the LG is doing. There is no justice in making such a decision. An alternative should be provided before removing us from here. I lost my new vehicle in the incident and the government hasn’t done anything about it. “
