A non-governmental organisation, Tanimu Foundation, in the North Bank community of Makurdi metropolis in Benue State has provided free vocational skills and empowerment to residents in the community.
Our correspondent reports that apart from the skill acquisition, no fewer than 20 other young people also benefited from cash and scholarship awards to enhance their education in various tertiary institutions across the country.
Speaking at the event, the foundation’s Country Director, Khalid Omeje, enjoined private individuals who have the resources, and government at all levels to support the good work of the founder.

He said a new programme – Aishatu Tanimu Award – had been introduced by the foundation which was put in place to further ease the plights of the youth.
“You must show ultimate commitment to your study/training and obey the rules and regulations of the foundation. Disrespect to the authority and religious and ethnic sentiments are prohibited. No form of discrimination whatsoever is allowed in the foundation.
Omeje, N20,000 was awarded to the best students in computer training and science-based extra mural lessons along with five other trained fashion designers who were given new sewing machines each; and six others who were trained in desktop publishing alongside another six who underwent one-year extramural lessons and that all of these are offered free of charge.
