TAMPAN floats health trust fund to cater for ailing thespians

The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has floated a health trust fund to pay for the medical treatment of ailing members.

The trust fund tagged, “TAMPAN Endowment Fund” according to the President of the Association, Bolaji Amusan, became imperative following the rising cases of deaths of Nollywood actors as a result of health challenges.

Recently, theatre practitioners battling with various health challenges and lack funds to seek proper medical care have had to take to the social media to beg Nigerians for money to take care of their medical needs, a development Amusa said had become embarrassing for them.

Amusa, popularly called “Mr Latin”, launched the Endowment Fund at the opening ceremony of Conference of Nigerian Arts and Films (CONAF), held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He said the trust fund would put an end to the act of continuous begging by Nollywood actors, adding that the fund would also subsidise the health insurance of its members.

He added that the fund will be structured as an investment portfolio whereby the initial fund will be provided through donations.

He however called on Nigerians, philanthropists and members of the public across the country and globe to support and contribute into the endowment fund.
