Najib Tambuwal, son of Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has emerged as the Majority Leader in the 4th Assembly of the Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP).

A statement by NYP Speaker Mubarak Mijinyawa, disclosed this at the first sitting of the 4th Assembly in Audu Bako Secretariat in Kano State hosted by the Kano State government.

It said the new majority leader, Najib was among the parliamentarians at the sitting.

NYP is saddled with the responsibility to provide young people the opportunity to develop skills in relationship-building, teamwork, public speaking and leadership development.

It also provides an opportunity for young people to learn about democracy and influence public decision-making.

The parliament is overseen by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the National Assembly.

In line with the Standing Orders of the Federal House of Representatives which permits the Speaker to create or expand the standing committees, the NYP Speaker has expanded the committees of the Youth Parliament to 20.

He said the decision was made in order to have an all-inclusive parliament with fairness and equity to all parliamentarians.

During the session, the Kano State government took the young parliamentarians for site visitation.

Mijinyawa applauded the government as he declared it the most youth friendly state for prioritising education and youth development through its numerous initiatives.
