The former Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Manir Dan’iya, has been nominated as the deputy Governor of Sokoto state.
Dan’iya was recently replaced by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Sokoto state had been without a deputy Governor since the resignation of Ahmed Aliyu about two weeks ago.
Aliyu is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 guber poll.
In a letter sent to the State House of Assembly which was read at the plenary session on Wednesday, Tambuwal said his nomination followed the voluntary resignation of his former deputy.
According to him, the nomination was in line with section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 constitution.
However, the speaker of the House, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, directed the Clerk of the House to invite the nominee for screening.
