Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has named the proposed housing estate for public officers in the state “342” which was the number of votes that gave him victory at the 2019 Governorship election in the state.
It would be recalled that the Governor defeated Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 342 votes at the 2019 Governorship election in the state.
The margin is the slimmest between any of the victorious candidates and the runners up in all the governorship elections in the country.
Receiving the report of the committee on the delivery of affordable houses to the people of the state, the governor noted that the state government would build a housing estate for the public officers, including state lawmakers, permanent secretaries and directors in the state civil service.
The houses, according to him, would be sited at the Sokoto new city at Kasai village in Wamakko local government area of the state.
The Governor added that, so far, 1500 houses were sold to civil servants on owner occupier basis.
According to Tambuwal, the state was collaborating with the Family Homes programme of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Mortgage bank to provide affordable houses for civil servants and businessmen.
“So far, 6000 civil servants have declared their interests and we allow for option for choice of location because we want to spread development across the local government areas,” he said.
The Governor, however, thanked the committee which was led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Sa’idu Ubandoma, for a job well done.
Earlier, the SSG explained that the committee arrived at 3 types of prototype houses which were 2,3 and 4-bedroom flats to be sold at N7 million, N10 million and N14 million respectively.
He noted that, out of the 6000 civil servants that declared their interest, 1000 were local government employees.
