In Abuja, our reporter inquired from some food sellers how the business is going, in this era of economic recession in the country.

At Delta Kitchen, situated in City Park, Ahmadu Bello Way, the manager, Mr Moses Chosen, said: “Delta Kitchen has been in existence for 10 years but it became popular for its services in 2012.”

He said that with perseverance and dedication, the business became lucrative, specialising in African delicacies. “We have many customers, some of whom we deliver food to in their locations,” he said, adding: “We don’t charge additional cost if you order for our food to be taken to you outside our restaurant.”

On what is needed to start eatery, he said that you can start with N50, 000. “Though, we get offer to prepare food at wedding ceremony and we can’t now estimate how much that’ll cost us,” he said. “It depends on what wedding organisers want served at the wedding reception.”

Miss Rakiya Ibrahim, a banker and regular customer at the Delta Kitchen, said she is satisfied with the restaurant’s services, adding: “Their services are good and I like the fact that you can order for your soup here. They make it for you and deliver to you. I have friends and colleagues who buy soup and food on a weekly basis from here.”

Tina Nwaogu, a young lady operator in the food business, owns the Tico Kitchen, in Port Harcourt, which is an online food outlet.

She said: “I have always been passionate about food and dreams to own big restaurant. I started by cooking for friends during their birthday and get together for free, until two years ago when I started a home delivery service for people, based on order. When I started, it was just family and friends that patronised me and referred me to people. Not until a friend advised that I should use my Instagram account to promote my business.”

Tina said that she started with little capital since she made the food in her house and delivered it to her clients. “They paid extra charges on delivery, depending on the place of delivery,” she said.

Tina said that aside from doing what she loves most, the business is very lucrative, with six people working with her.
