Taiwan has expressed readiness to establish more technological firms to its existing 80 businesses across different sectors in Nigeria.
The Chairman, Taiwan External Trade Development Council, James Huang, revealed this to newsmen during the 2024 Taiwan Technology Day which was organised by the Taiwan Trade Centre in Lagos.
“African countries are moving very fast in terms of new technologies, from Internet to smartphones applications and all the way into the future of artificial intelligence area because the people of Nigeria are very bright, smart and in the future what our society will be like will be defined by new technologies; Artificial Intelligence and this is an area where Taiwan and Nigerian companies can work with each other a lot.
“I firmly believe in ICT solutions, smart solutions and green energy solutions. Those are all the strengths of Taiwan industries and we have great potential to work with each other,” he said.

He added that Taiwan is rich with petrochemical industries in both upstream and downstream, envisioning how Nigeria and his country could explore business opportunities in the oil sector.
“Nigeria is the biggest oil-producing country in Africa and Taiwan, apart from our ICT and semiconductor industries, is very strong in terms of petrochemicals industries all the way from upstream to downstream applications.”
The Director-General, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Sola Obadimu, acknowledged the vast trade opportunities Taiwan offers to the African continent, saying Nigeria could leverage on them.
