Residents of Zaria on Friday excitedly trooped out to observe their first Juma’at prayer in 12 weeks following the reopening of mosques by the state government, Arewa Trust Weekly reports.

A resident, Malam Ibrahim Dallami, said most children in the city saw last Friday as a special day, because of the 11 weeks they spent without observing Juma’at prayer.

“As you can see, children, and even some of us adults, are very excited. Even our parents said that they have never heard in history where Juma’at prayer was stopped for 11 weeks.  We are praying to Allah not to repeat an incident like this.”

Our correspondent, who visited some mosques in the city reports that safety protocols announced by the state government were fully observed.

For instance, the Director of Daarul Hadithis Salafiyya (Albaniy Academy), Zaria, Dr Abdulrafi’i Abdulganiyi, was seen at the entrance of the school ensuring that nobody was allowed entry without face mask. Worshippers going into the mosque were also made to sanitise their hands. At the Tudun Jukun, Zaria Juma’at mosque, the Imam, Sheikh Aliyu Abdullahi Telex, urged the worshippers to continue praying for an end of the coronavirus.
