Zamfara State government has announced the rescue of 30 women abducted by suspected armed bandits in Maru local government area of the state.

At least 35 women were kidnapped last monday when they were working on a farm at Matankari village located 7 km East of Dansadau town of Maru local government area of the state.

Special Adviser to the governor on Public Englightment, Media and Communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara said the governor thanked the security operatives for rescuing the kidnapped women.

He said the state police commissioner Mr Shaba Alkali had briefed the executive governor Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari on the development and he charged them to secure the release of the remaining ladies still in captivity.

But contrary to the claim, residents told Daily Trust that the abducted women were released after the armed bandits realised that they would find it difficult to tap ransom from their families owing to their poor background.

A resident who craved for anonymity told Daily Trust that 5 young ladies are still in captivity. "The ladies are set for wedding on 25 of this month. One of the fathers of the abducted girls told me that he had concluded preparations for the wedding before this incident occurred." He said.

The spokesman of the state police command DSP Muhammad Shehu could not be reached for coming as at the time of filing this report
