Popular transport and logistics firm, The Young Shall Grow Motors, has begun moves to compensate family members of three police officers killed by suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members in Anambra State on November 25, 2021.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that the police officers, ASP Francis Idoko, Inspector Rufa’i Adamu and Inspector Emmanuel Akubo, were killed while on official assignment en route the airport to pick Chief Vincent Obianodo, the founder of The Young Shall Grow Motors.

Our correspondent reports that the slain officers were working under the Lagos State Police Command and were attached to Chief Obianodo as guards.

It was learnt that the representative of the company had held several meetings with the families of the slain officers.

Malam Shu’aibu who represented the family of late Insp Adamu during the meetings, told our correspondent that several meetings had been held at the Lagos police command between the families of the slain police officers and the representatives of the chairman of The Young Shall Grow.

According to Malam Shu’aibu during the first meeting the company wrote to the police informing them they would support each of the families with N5m.

He, however, said that during their last meeting, the company said it was going to give each of the families N10m, but that the families were hoping to get something better from the company.

Meanwhile, the widow of late Insp Akubo, Mrs Akubo, told Daily Trust Sunday that she was yet to see the corpse of her husband since the incident, urging the authorities to retrieve his remains to be given a proper burial.

She also appealed that scholarship should be given to her children to enable them continue with their education.

When contacted, spokesman of the transport company, Mr Bonny Ukatu, who also represented the company during the meetings with the families of the slain police officers, said the move to reach out to the families of the officers was done out of the generosity of the founder.

He said, “It’s not his responsibility as they died in active service; it’s just like a situation where policemen die in an exchange with armed robbers; who will you hold responsible?

“I as the spokesman and legal counsel has conducted meetings with the families to see how we can assist them, and I have also been communicating with the founder in this regard.”
