The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) yesterday supported the calls by the Senate for the Federal Government to consider the reports of the National Conference convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.
The council’s position was contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the national executive committee in Ibadan, which confirmed Chief Idowu Sofolahan (SAN) as its President General and Dr Kunle Olajide as the Secretary General.
The first female professor in Nigeria, Adeotun Ogunseye, is the matron of the council.
The communiqué read in part: “The YCE commends the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for its resolution, urging the executive to forward the report of the 2014 National Conference to the National Assembly in form of Executive Bill.
“The YCE urges all Nigerians to support the initiative of the National Assembly in its decision to work on the report.”
Olajide, who read the communiqué, said that the only solution to the socio-economic and political challenges besetting the country was to restructure it to reflect true federalism.
