General Manager, Corporate Affairs of NIWA, Tayo Fadile in a statement said the conference is to fashion out a new Inland Waterways Transportation Code that will provide navigational regulations and guidelines as it relates to safety.
The conference will also attempt to provide recommendations that will enable Nigeria to domesticate “the International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions and protocols as it affects navigational regulations on our inland waterways.”
This will allow Nigeria to qualify as one of the countries that meet the International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines on safety and therefore, conform to the global best practices.
