Residents of some parts of Asokoro District in the Federal Capital Territory have appealed to the FCT Water Board to address the problem of non-availability of water in some parts of the district.

The residents spoke at a one-day forum organized by the water board to engage its customers on the quality of its services in the area.

A resident, Femi Oshoba, told the board that some areas in Asokoro on high elevation have not been getting water and requested the board to find a lasting solution to the issue.

“We commend the board for organizing this kind of forum because it will afford us the opportunity to air our views on your services directly,’’ he said.

Another resident, Mrs Mohammed, complained about the AVR meter in her house, saying whenever the meter was bad, she was asked to pay before she could get it replaced or fixed.

Some other residents complained of estimated bills from the board, saying in some cases, they were made to pay for what they did not use.

The general manager of the board, Dr. Dame Joy Okoro, who responded to the complaints, directed relevant units of the board to attend to the customers immediately.

She said she was aware of the issue relating to water access in some areas of Asokoro, which she blamed on the topography of the areas.

She said channelling water to such areas requires pumping instead of the gravitation used for other areas.

The GM said the FCT Administration was already in the process of upgrading the booster facilities in those areas that would make water pumping easier.

She said the project, which had been on for some years, would soon be completed and appealed to the residents in the affected areas to remain patient with the board.
