The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said that many voters are abusing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), to settle issues with their Bank Verification Number (BVN), or have access to humanitarian assistance by NGOs in Yobe state.
In an interview with Daily Trust, the Administration Secretary of INEC, Waziri Zannah, said that the massive turnout of people at CVR registration Centres was due to pressure by the two institutions for a legal means of identification before clearance.
"Their only bet is to come and obtain the Temporary Voter Cards from INEC. No matter how many times they have registered because, most of them had lost their cards at the peak of insurgency.
He said many of them have their permanent voter cards ready at INEC offices in various local government areas but they will not tell the truth because they are desperate access their money without possible delay.
He warned that those who have registered more than once of losing their voting rights or even be prosecuted for committing offence against the country’s electoral act.
