A renowned virologist, Prof Oyewale Tomori, has enjoined Nigerians to take the COVID-19 vaccines being rolled out in the country.

He made the call Saturday while receiving his jab  at the Primary  Healthcare Centre , Area 2, Abuja.

He said there was no need for people to be afraid of taking the vaccine because it is safe, and would help the country in ending the pandemic.

According to him, “It is a stage that all of us should get to because it is for everyone. The more all of us get it, the better the chances for all of us to go back to our normal lives. So I encourage everyone to move quickly and as fast as possible to get the vaccine.”

On the Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccine, he said “The evidence for us is that over 400 million people have been vaccinated and how many of them have died or had side effects? You get side effects from taking even Panadol. There is actually no reason to be afraid. We have been taking vaccines before.

“So to my colleagues in the health sector and every one, there is no reason to be hesitant about it. Go for it. It is for your good, it is for life.”
