A goal from Donny van de Beek gave Ajax a critical 1-0 win away at Tottenham Hotspur yesterday evening.
Van de Beek rounded off a fine team move to cap a scintillating opening period from Ajax when they put Spurs under constant pressure.
The home side couldn’t get anything going and lost centre-back Jan Vertonghen following a nasty head injury that he initially tried to play on from.
The introduction of Moussa Sissoko and a switch to a four-man defence paid dividends for Spurs as they found gaps in the Ajax defence but they were unable to exploit their new-found advantage.
Ajax return to Amsterdam with a vital away goal although it could have been two had David Neres’ effort not come back off the post.
