The BlackBerry Passport is the first phone in the company’s lineup to come with the new BlackBerry 10.3 OS onboard, which brings such features as BlackBerry Assistant, and a brand new BlackBerry Hub with Instant Actions. With BlackBerry 10.3, users also get access to the Amazon Appstore for Android and roughly 240,000 apps.
Three months old in the Nigerian market, the biggest feature of the smartphone, apart from its 4.5-inch 1440×1440 pixel resolution IPS LCD display (translating to a pixel density of 453ppi), is the three-line hardware keyboard with capacitive touch sensitivity. This allows users to perform gestures, select auto-complete suggestions, and scroll across lists.
From users perspective, just like one would have expected, the BlackBerry Passport isn’t too common yet in so many hands because of its position as a high end smartphone.
But for this striving to ensure maximum productivity, Mr. Thomas Adeogun, a staff of one of the leading Nigerian banks, said BlackBerry Passport is more suited inside jacket pocket than the one on the sides of your jeans.
According to him, the size of the device makes it unwieldy in real life as its measures 90.3mm wide and 128mm long making it very difficult to use with just one hand but “I will say it’s a smartphone to have, the battery life is amazing compared with other BlackBerry models.”
Another BlackBerry Passport user who is a journalist but pleaded anonymity said part of what he enjoys in the device is those productivity apps like Bloomberg Professional and access to the latest Android haves through pre installed Amazon Appstore.
He said BlackBerry Natural Sound which comes with the Passport alongside its powerful speakers and a quad microphone system that delivers a high-quality listening experience also makes it an interesting device.
