Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has promised the immediate establishment of a police outpost in the Yelwan area of Bauchi Local Government.

The governor made the commitment while inspecting the level of damage caused by the civil unrest, which resulted in the loss of three lives, destruction of houses and properties in the area.

He also pledged to procure operational vehicles for the police and other security personnel to intensify operations around the area to guarantee peaceful coexistence in the area.

Addressing the communities after the inspection, the governor described the incident as an act of miscreants, warning that government would not allow bad elements in the society to disrupt the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed across the state.

He directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to take inventory of the property destroyed to enable the government to provide them with relief materials.

On his part, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, said the police had embarked on a full-scale investigation into the immediate cause of the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

Sanda also enjoyed the community and religious leaders to guide their subjects by preaching the gospel of peace and tolerance for the overall development of the state.

The state government had earlier imposed a 24-hour curfew in the area to avoid further escalation of the incident.

A statement earlier issued by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa, had said the state government had ordered a full-scale investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the disturbances.

“Already, the security agencies have made some arrests,” the statement added.
