It will be recalled that the Emir conferred on Shekarau the title of Satrdauna on the 5th of November 2009 and thereafter, he announced that the title supersedes all traditional titles in the emirate except that of council members.
Ado Bayero said this when the organizing committee on the turbaning ceremony of the Sardauna led by the state’s Commissioner for Environment Alhaji Garba Yusuf Abubakar paid him a courtesy call at his Palace on the 15th of December 2009.
Speaking after the traditional rites were performed, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero said the council decided to confer the title of Sardauna on Shekarau because of his impeccable and exemplary characteristics which he said are similar to that of late Sardaunan Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
He further called on the governor not to relent in his efforts towards ensuring continuation of peaceful coexistence as well as in executing developmental projects in the state.
In attendance at the turbaning ceremony were the representative of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Minister for Finance, Nigerian President during the second republic Alhaji Shehu Shagari, among many others.
