The former Dodan Warriors forward led the ‘Celebrity’ team to victory over the ‘Nigerian All Stars’ team after making the first basket of the tournament.

The ‘Celebrity team’ included music stars; Ikechukwu, Sound Sultan, Tuface Idibia, Vector and other top Nigerian stars in the entertainment industry.

In a very entertaining match, the ‘Celebrity’ team took the lead from the first quarter and never looked back.

The fun-filled encounter ended in favour of the ‘Celebrity team’ as it dunked 20 points over the ‘All Stars” team which earned 15points.

Speaking after the encounter, a member of the Local Organising Committee, Comrade James Oche said the match was significant.

“It was not all about winning but a calculated attempt to show Nigerian youths that basketball is a game worth playing. When they see African stars like Tuface, Sound Sultan and others play, they would also want to”, said Comrade Oche.

Speaking on the crowd that graced the matches, the LOC member noted that it has never been like that, stressing that the championship was developing into an international one.

“We had never witnessed a crowd like this in this competition. This crowd here is over ten thousand and it shows that ‘Mark D ball’ has come a long way.”

On her part, wife of the Senate President, Helen Mark praised the initiative of the organiser of the championship, Ogoche Mark.

She said the championship which started more than a decade ago has taken an international status attracting players, officials and fans all over Africa.

“With all the internationals here, it is no doubt the most attended basketball competition in Nigeria”, she affirmed.
