Military and police personnel have amicably resolved the crisis that led to the blockade of the Kaduna-Zaria road.
The drivers had blocked the road with their articulated vehicles since Monday morning to protest the shooting of their colleague allegedly by soldiers at a checkpoint. This led to a heavy grid lock on the only access road between Kaduna and Zaria. The army denied any of its personnel was involved.
However, after army personnel along with the police met with the angry drivers, they agreed to remove the barricade but they insisted that all road blocks in the road been removed.
Daily Trust learnt that one Abah Saminu, a trailer driver was shot by unidentified men in military uniform on the road for refusing to part with N500 for them, leading to the protest by his colleagues.
Motorists woke up on Monday to find the road blocked forcing many travellers to return to their homes.
Our correspondent reports that a robbery operation took place at the same location some two weeks ago by uniformed men who made away with their victim’s car.
