A traditional medical practitioner in Nasarawa State, Taru Aminadab, has called on the three tiers of government to support the alternative medicines sector.

He made the call in Karu, where he said many countries in Asia have taken measures, including alternative medicines aimed at finding solutions to health challenges.

“If government increases support for practitioners of alternative medicine, vaccines for different ailments could be developed locally as done by other countries rather than spending huge resources to import the drugs from the West,” he said.

Aminadab said there is need for stronger collaboration and close monitoring by government to identify genuine alternative medical practitioners whose medications can stand any scientific verification.

The China-trained traditional medical experts use the orthodox means of treatment, he added.
