The first civilian Governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has described the threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as foolishness.

IPOB had said the November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra would not hold.

In a statement titled: ‘National Appeal to People in Power,” Ezeife said it was “the most foolish decision anybody who called himself an Igbo could take in the circumstance.”

He said the implication of IPOB’s resolve was that there would be a state of emergency in Anambra State if the scheduled poll was truncated.

He said, “I did not at all imagine that any Anambra/Igbo man or woman can imagine his or her interest can be served by not having election on November 18.

“When it’s time to leave office and there is no successor, there will be a state of emergency and what that means is that the government that unleashed Python Dance on us will determine who will administer Anambra State.

“Absolutely, nothing good can come out from the IPOB decision. God did not create us without brains. The IPOB decision is useless and of no sense,” he said.

Ezeife also said that the Anambra people would resist any attempt to rig in a candidate during the election.

He, therefore, appealed to those he called “the powers that be” not to rig the election as being speculated.

Apparently referring to the ruling APC, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, Ezeife said Anambra people should be given a free hand to choose a leader of their choice.

He described as a serious signal the recent alleged interception of two truckloads of election materials in a hotel in the state allegedly belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
