Technocrats can’t win votes for Buhari — Nkire

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus, Chief Sam Nkire, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to ensure that only core politicians are appointed ministers from the South East during the next cabinet reshuffle.

Chief Nkire gave the advice yesterday in Abuja while reacting to the news of the impending cabinet reshuffle being planned by the president.

Nkire said what the South East needed were ministers and political appointees who could boost the popularity of the party in the zone.

He told President Buhari and Chief Odigie-Oyegun that some pioneer APC members from the South East sold their property and borrowed money to print and paste posters of the president and his deputy, hired buses and funded rallies in their various states during the 2015 general elections.

The Abia State-born politician said that it was difficult for victorious APC members to live with a situation where they watched non-members and “Johnys Just Come” reap where they did not sow.

He said the PDP experience had shown that the so-called “experts and technocrats are greater thieves than politicians.

“At present, three out of the five ministers from the South East can hardly attract a total of three 300 votes to either the party or the president come 2019 general elections,” he said.
