CNPP’s chairman, Baba Agan told journalists in Makurdi yesterday that the body would team up with aggrieved parents to protest the long stay of their children at home.
“The continued close down of public primary school in the state is evil and a disservice to the common man,” he said.
Agan, who accused the state government of being insensitivity to the plight of teachers, added that they were not concerned because their children attend private schools in and outside the country.
Public primary schools in the state have been shut for about five months following a directive by the state branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) asking its members to stay away from work. The union took the decision due to failure of the state government to implement the national minimum wage for them.
However, the media aide to Governor Gabriel Suswam, Dr. Cletus Akwaya, said in a recent statement that the government was liaising with the NUT national secretariat to put an end to the strike.
