Some contenders for the PDP national chairmanship at the December 9, 2017, national convention have ruled out the possibility of attending today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meetings.
They said they were still aggrieved and dissatisfied with the outcome of the convention which produced the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC).
In a telephone interview on what the two separate meetings are likely to discuss, a former minister simply said, “I wouldn’t know because I am not attending.”
When our reporter asked why he would not attend despite being a BoT and NEC member, the ex-minister said, “I am not interested.”
Another BoT member from the South West also said, “I have no business attending the meeting.”
The BoT and NEC members will meet today to discuss critical issues bothering on the health of the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The two meetings are scheduled to take place at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Our correspondent gathered that the decisions reached by the BoT, which will meet first, will be thoroughly scrutinised by the NEC for approval.
Party leaders say today’s meeting will also discuss the possible ways of reclaiming power, the state of reconciliation within the party, how to return PDP bigwigs who left and how to constantly put the ruling APC in check, among others.
