The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun has asked for more time to reply to the suit by suspended former Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Mounir Gwarzo.
Counsel to the minister, Chinedu Achumie, who yesterday, acknowledged service of the suit filed before the National Industrial Court in Abuja on April 6, said they were yet to reply.
Counsel to the SEC, Chris Uche (SAN) informed the court that the commission had been served and also filed a preliminary objection challenging the claimant’s suit.
After listening to the submissions, Justice Sanusi Kado ordered service of the court processes on the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami (SAN) and adjourned the suit to October 24. Gwarzo sued Adeosun, the SEC and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
In the suit filed by his counsel, Abdulhakeem Mustapha (SAN), Gwarzo is challenging the powers of the minister to suspend him from office as his appointment was by the President and confirmed by the Senate in accordance with Section 5(1) and (2) of the Investments and the report of the Administrative Panel of Inquiry, Securities Act 2007.
