The chairman of Kano Pillars football club, Alhaji Surajo Shuaibu Yahaya has said players of the club who are back in the team’s camp are in high spirits as they await the commencement of training.

On Monday players of Pillars residing outside Kano were recalled to the city for a meeting that held on Tuesday, July 7 between the club and Kano sports authorities.

Although there are insinuations in some quarters that Pillars have resumed training even as the ban on sporting activities is yet to be lifted, Yahaya said that is far from the truth.

He said “I am happy to inform everyone that my players reported back in camp and none of them is having any health challenge.

“They are all in good shape and ready for resumption. However, training has not resumed. We are conscious of the ban on all on-field football activities as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are law-abiding so we would wait for the federal government and football authorities to tell us when to resume.

“For now, we are watching over our players who are back and rearing to go. I must confess the boys are really feeling motivated despite the COVID-19 setback,” he said.

Yahaya also thanked the governor of Kano State for ensuring prompt payment of players and officials’ salaries despite the ravaging effect of the coronavirus.

He said the team will do everything to reciprocate Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s unflinching support when football resumes.

“We are all motivated to put in our best when the league resumes because our amiable governor has not abandoned us even at this trying moment.

“The players and officials are paid as and when due so there will be no excuse for failure,” he stressed.
