The Nigerian Foundation for Support of Victims of Terrorism also known as Victims Support Fund (VSF) has donated N40 million for the care of victims of Kano GSM mobile phone market attack.
Professor Sunday Ochoche, executive director of the fund, who led officials of VSF to Kano yesterday, said N20 million will go to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and another N20 million to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Professor Ochoche said VSF has donated a total of N240 million to 12 hospitals nationwide since its inauguration.
He said the N40 million donated to Kano was meant to improve healthcare services in two hospitals so that they can properly attend to victims of last Wednesday’s attack.
He charged management of the two hospitals to make good use of the funds given to them.
“The recent attack on Kano market surprised many. Nevertheless, the war against the insurgency is coming to an end,” he said.
At Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Aminu Zakari said the hospital needs more funds and consumables.
He also advocated for the construction of a trauma centre in the hospital, where victims of such disaster can undergo therapy.
On his part, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, said Kano State government is rendering the necessary assistance to the victims, noting that over ten victims have undergone surgery at Murtala Muhammad and Abdullahi Wase specialist hospitals.
Dr. Getso, who commended the fund for the gesture, said the money will help in providing immediate medical care to the victims.
