A 31-year-old supermarket attendant, Aderonke Balogun, who allegedly stole N1.7 million from his employer, yesterday appeared in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The police charged Aderonke, who resides at Ikota Housing Estate, Lagos, with theft. She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Edward Abiodun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence while working at the Prince Ebeano Supermarket on Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos.

Abiodun said that the defendant stole N1.7 million, belonging to Ebeano supermarket.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287(7) provides seven years imprisonment as punishment for stealing from employer.

Magistrate T.B. Are admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State government.

Are adjourned the case until Oct. 3 for mention. (NAN)
