Scotland Yard officers swooped on several people after information emerged that the Pontiff could be in danger. In the early hours of this morning, five men ranging from 26 to 50-years-old were arrested under the Terrorist Act 2000 at business premises in central London.

The group is being held at a police station and searches are being carried out at business premises in central London and homes in the north and east of the capital.

It is costing millions of pounds to protect the Pope during his tour of Scotland, London and the West Midlands.

Following the arrests, the policing arrangements for the Papal visit were reviewed and police say they are satisfied the itinerary can stay the same.

A spokesman said: “Following today’s arrests the policing arrangements for the Papal visit were reviewed and we are satisfied that our current policing plan remains appropriate. The itinerary has not changed. There is no change to the UK threat level.”

The Pope has been on an official visit of the U.K., where he has been making efforts to clarify several allegations that has been label against the catholic church.
