The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has accused the Kano State government of discrimination against non-teaching staff in state-owned polytechnics by implementing 65 years retirement age only for teaching staff.
It said the state government’s action was in clear contradiction of the provision of the amended Polytechnics Act (2019).

The union stated this in a communiqué signed by the Zone C, Zonal coordinator, Nura Shehu Gaya, and secretary, Nura Abubakar, after their zonal meeting in Birnin Kebbi.
It advised the state government to stop appointing principal officers from outside the sector.
SSANIP also expressed displeasure over the alleged usurpation of nonteaching staff positions by the academic staff.
The association called on the federal government to revisit the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Act by allocating 40 per cent of the fund for sponsorship of non-teaching staff in Nigerian polytechnics for further studies at postgraduate levels.”
