The Director of sports in Benue State, Comrade Philip Nongu has decried the failure of the National Sports Commission to fix a date for the 19th National Sports Festival saying it is not good for sports development in the country.
For inexplicable reasons, the 19th NSF which Cross River State accepted to host since 2014 has suffered several postponements.
Speaking through the Head of Organising in the Benue State Sports Council, Prince Sunny Onoja, the director called on the NSC to announce a date for the sports festival in order to save grassroots sports.
“The delay in hosting of the sports festival, which is the only platform to raise future talents has adversely affected sports programs in the state and the country as all mini sports festivals hosted by states are geared towards the National Sports Festival”.
Nongu therefore observed that henceforth only states that are ready to host the festival should be given the hosting right as he said the Cross River State no show should be an eye opener.
He also said states participating in the festival would need to know about the new date for the festival in time in order to prepare adequately.
