Consequently, the association said the focus of its annual business luncheon for 2014 would be on ‘Transformation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange into a world class exchange.’
The chairman of the association, Mr.Uche Obi, who said this in Lagos on Monday, explained that the goal was for stakeholders from all segments of the capital market to find ways to speed up its transformation.
According to him, the event, which is scheduled to take place in Lagos on September 17, will be chaired by the chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission with the Director-General, SEC, Ms. Arunma Oteh, as guest of honour.
Obi, who observed that the exchange had carried out a lot of reforms aimed at deepening the capital market in terms of liquidity, depth and volume, said it still had some way to go to match exchanges in advanced economies.
He said: “It would also be considered a good exchange when it is very easy for people to change positions.”
He also stressed, among other things, that in a situation where cross-border trade is becoming very common, the NSE should be able to relate with other exchanges so that products on it can be traded on other exchanges.
The Vice-Chairman, CMSA, Mrs.Yinka Edu, explained that the theme of the annual event was timely considering the numerous changes in the capital market in recent times.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NSE, Mr. Oscar Onyema, will be the guest speaker – supported by a panel of discussants made up of the likes of the CEO of Seplat Petroleum Development Company, Mr. Austin Avuru; and the CEO, Stanbic IBTC Capital Limited, Ms. Yewande Sadiku.
