As part of activities to commemorate 50 years of its existence, a socio-cultural group, Omu-Aran Social Club, has rolled out plans to build a N200 million multi-purpose hall in a school in Omu-Aran LGA, Kwara State.

The spokesman of the club, Chief Jide Adebayo, in an interview with North Central Trust, stated that the foundation laying ceremony of the project would hold at the school on Saturday.

“As part of the major events to commemorate our golden jubilee, we are launching and laying the foundation of a N200 million multi-purpose hall in one of the community colleges in the town called Ogbo Grammar School. The school is one of the five colleges established by the Omu-Aran community more than 40 years ago.”

He added that the hall was to facilitate the conduct of examinations and other activities for residents in the community.

“The club has been involved in a lot of developmental projects in promoting socio-cultural activities. Years ago, we organised a beauty pageant where we selected Miss Omu-Aran among our young girls in the town just to promote social upbringing among our young girls in terms of etiquette and academic promotion. We equally have been engaged in the award of  scholarships to secondary and post-secondary students,” he said.

While urging youths to hold steadfast to their tradition, he called on those who are well-to-do to give back to the society that made them successful.

“One of the reasons we promote youth educational activities is to enable them to have traditional values by ensuring they promote only the aspects of our culture that are healthy and development oriented. We try to let them know that every human being is a product of society and at our own older age, people must imbibe the culture of giving back to the society that has assisted us to grow.”

He added that the climax of the event would be the presentation of merit awards to prominent Nigerians, including, Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed; Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi; Olomu of Omu-Aran Oba Oladele Adeoti; Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide; among others while 200 bedsheets will be donated to the Omu-Aran General Hospital.
