I have decided to drop this piece as many people may not be aware of the silent revolution going on in Jigawa State through Social Investment Program. Between May and April,2018,a total of ten thousand (10,000)households have benefited from Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer of N5000 per month and many more are still being paid.

Jigawa State has a dispersed settlement pattern with many remote places with serious challenges. In some cases, Conditional Cash Transfer Official may have to cross streams and rivers with the help of locally made canoes to get to those remote places.

Places like Yalleman, Shukuma Sukulliti at Gunka ward in Jahun Local Government Area, Unik and Makuwa in Auyo L.G of the State, are among such areas located along fringes of water bodies. I was opportune to be in those areas at the time of the payment. I was made to believe that the officials visit the areas in two months intervals to pay N10,000 to each household. One may not understand what N10,000 will do to such people. A lot of economic activities flourishes at the time of the payment. Majority of people in those areas are subsistent farmers and the money means so much to them.

The breakdown of the payments in various LGAs as I obtain from the authorities is as follows: Auyo = 3696 Beneficiaries, Guri = 3774 beneficiaries, Gwiwa = 4767 beneficiaries , Jahun = 5516 beneficiaries, Kaugama = 3798 beneficiaries, Kiyawa = 4557 beneficiaries, Miga = 2964 beneficiaries, Roni = 3113 beneficiaries, Taura = 4919 beneficiaries.Total number stands at  10,000 beneficiaries.

The amount of N10,000 per every two months will bring succor to such beneficiaries and eventually reduce the level of poverty in Jigawa State. As for the State, there has been a change of leadership style from elites oriented to masses oriented .For a period of three years, Jigawa State Government under Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has provided over 40,000 chairs to primary and secondary schools in the state, and this has cut across villages and towns as well as every nook and cronies of the state. This is really huge, as each chair can accommodate at least three pupils, some even four in some cases. Where masses complain of the style of leadership in the state, the ordinary people are solidly behind the administration, coupled with prompt payment of salaries and pension as and when due. There is high level of transparency in governance in the state and the Governor is now known as Mai Calculator (A person who operates using calculator).

Mustapha Yau, Dutse, Jigawa State.
