Suspected smugglers at the weekend in Ogun State abandoned 2,438 cartons of foreign frozen poultry products worth N13 million following an encounter with operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service attached to the headquarters compliance team.
The leader of the Nigeria Customs Headquarters compliance team, Ogun State axis, Assistant Comptroller Shittu Abdulmaruf, disclosed to Daily Trust that the seizure of large quantities of smuggled frozen poultry products would further cripple the financial base of the smugglers.
He said that one of his patrol teams at the weekend intercepted a long trailer with registration number AGL 53 XF suspected to be carrying frozen poultry products along the busy Ijebu-Ode Sagamu Expressway.
He stated further that his operatives, out of curiosity, insisted on conducting physical examination on the truck, which revealed that the truck had the 2,438 cartons of smuggled frozen poultry products.
