Six serving governors, members of the National Assembly and top party members will be part of the entourage of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, for tomorrow’s official visit to Jigawa State.
Sherriff, who was supposed to have visited the state last week, was forced to postpone the visit by the police, allegedly at the instance of Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar.
The state government had since denied the allegation.
The Jigawa State chairman of the PDP, Salisu Mamuda Kuit, yesterday announced that former governors of the party and members of National Working Committee (NWC) were also expected to grace the occasion.
He said Sheriff will visit the state ahead of the wards and state congresses of the party to fashion out a new course for successful convention.
Kuit said a police permit for the visit had been obtained by the party.
The commissioner of police in the state, Us man Tilli Abubakar, said they only gave permit to the PDP for a familiarization visit of its national chairman, and not for any political rally or campaign.
Former governor of the state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, had in recent interview said the PDP will hold a rally like no other in Jigawa ahead of 2019 elections.
