Senatorial race: Orubibi set to unseat Gemade

 A former Chairman of Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi has publicly declared her intention to contest for the Benue North East Senatorial District (Zone A) election.

The seat is presently occupied by Senator Barnabas Gemade who is also believed to be eyeing the office for a third term.

Orubibi who is contesting the election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday told the people of Zone A during her declaration to run for the office in Adikpo, the senatorial district’s headquarters that when elected, she will devise ways that would enable the people tap from areas of their comparative advantage.

She said that the district is known for its rich agricultural produce including roots, tubers, fruits, adding that if voted into power, she would explore areas of comparative advantage of the various power blocs from the zone to bring out those potentials for enhanced development, wealth and job creation.

The woman popularly known as tax amazon posited that the time has come for men and women alike to support the womenfolks for higher political office as she urged the women to take her acceptance to serve Zone A at the level of Senate as their own election.

Also, the National President of National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Dr. Gloria Laraba Shoda, who graced the occasion called on Benue Zone A women not to disappoint Orubibi, rather support her to win the senatorial race.

Shoda said  that 2019 will not be business as usual because women don’t want to cry of marginalisation any longer stressing that, women are no longer asking for 30 per cent affirmative action but 50-50.

In their separate remarks, APC Vice Chairman, Zone A, Barr Vincent Uji, leader of Zone A, APC elders  Alfred Acha, both assured Orubibi of a level playing ground in the party for the actualisation of her aspiration.
