Ugwu, who stated this during the annual cultural day of the school, said the introduction of such an annual event became necessary in view of the gradual extinction of certain cultures and traditions.
She argued that the carnival presently organised by government was not encompassing, saying it did not capture the children who, according to her, have been victims in terms of speaking their dialects, greetings, dressing, cooking and other cultural norms and values.
“Time has come for us to be proud of our cultural heritage, if we had failed, we can’t afford to allow our children to fail also,” she maintained.
One of the parents, Mustapha Saka, applauded the initiative of the school management in organising the event, adding that it created a platform for the pupils to understand and appreciate better their roots and societal norms and those of other tribes.
He implored other schools to borrow a leaf from the school, saying the initiative served as a means of uniting the various tribes and ethnic groups that made up the Nigerian nation.
