The survey lasting 100 days will generate data on school enrolment, attendance and learning with regard to efforts toward achieving Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Education for All (EFA) goals for children of school age.
The plan targets information from 30,000 households with at least one child aged four to 16 in the duration of the exercise.
While announcing the commencement of the exercise, the NPC Federal Commissioner representing FCT, Dr Aliyu Daniel Kwali said, “I appeal to all Nigerians resident in the six area councils in FCT to cooperate with the interviewers to ensure the successful conduct of 2015 NEDS,” stressing that information will be treated with absolute confidentiality.
This is the third in the series of NEDS in FCT. Results of previous census showed that enrolment in rural areas in FCT is below national average.
The ongoing one is to see whether government’s intervention has made a difference.
